WHAT ON EARTH IS CHIME.IN?
There are so many social media sites that come and go, however the newly launched chime.in site will be here to stay - and not just because it’s the newest venture from serial entrepreneur and gazillionaire Bill Gross, but because it combines all the things you know and love about Twitter, Facebook, Reddit and Blogging – as well as communities based around your interests.
Chime.in say “we’re building the world’s richest interest network. A place to learn and share with others who have the same interests. Where one day, your every interest, no matter how big or small, serious or silly, will have its own vibrant community of people who are just as passionate about it as you are. And, eventually, ways to monetise your content with partners.”
It’s everything you know and love about social media in one easy location.

FACEBOOK COULD GET YOU A JOB
We’ve all used Facebook to kill time on a boring day at the office, but now it could actually help you find a new job, with the announcement that Facebook has struck a deal the U.S Labour Department to help the unemployed find jobs.

MC HAMMER HAS THE ANSWERS. SERIOUSLY!
MC Hammer is not content to only be remembered for being the innovator of pop-rap music (and super baggy pants) – he has used the Web 2.0 Summit in San Francisco to launch his search engine called WireDoo.
The rapper-turned-entrepreneur told the convention that WireDoo has “deep search” ability that is about relationships beyond keywords.
Hammer said in an interview with the LA Times, "The engine crawls and the algorithm is designed in a way to get all of the related information to your query and then package it consistently in one environment," Hammer said. "If it's a car ... it's not just about the word 'car,' but it's about insurance, it's about the specs, it's about mileage, it's about style, it's about all these things. So that's the way it works."
Fingers crossed this works out for MC Hammer, because I'm pretty sure the royalties from U Can't Touch This are almost gone.

A FINE LINE BETWEEN FICTION AND FUN
There was a time not-so-long ago when James Bond movies were an escape from reality and being able to talk into the collar of your shirt seemed far-fetched.
If director of the ElectroScience Laboratory John Volakis is successful, James Bond movies will need more imagination, because clothing with built-in antennas will become an everyday item, taking “hands-free” communication to a whole new level.
Volakis spoke to the New York Times and said “You won’t have to hold your cellphone to your ear. We’ll eliminate all that. It will be part of your attire.”
The technology will be able to send, save and receive information.
The gap between fiction and fun is certainly getting smaller.

WANNA BE A MOVIE STAR?
takethislollipop.com may inspire thoughts of sugary sweetness and trips to the candy store, but this Halloween inspired viral has nothing sweet about it...
The site extracts your Facebook information and makes you the star of a horror movie that illustrates the dangers of sharing too much information on social networks (or in my opinion is just a bit of harmless fun).
It’s the latest viral campaign from the creator of elf yourself, Jason Zada and it’s so good, bloggers are saying it could be the next Blair Witch Project if made into a movie.

YOU CAN SAVE A LIFE WITH A SWAB
Amit Gupta has 40 days to find a bone marrow donor or he will die, and has turned to digital media to help find a match.
This beautiful piece in adage by Porter Gale eloquently describes both the opportunity and the limitations of direct marketing when faced with life-or-death.
Well worth a read.

NEVER TAKE A BLURRY PHOTO AGAIN
Amateur photographers rejoice! A revolutionary camera by a Silicon Valley start-up Lytro allows you to shoot the perfect picture every time. It’s not just a great idea – it’s also has lots of cool technology behind it.
Some cool features are:
1) You can refocus on any point, even after you take the photo allowing you to edit and make even the blurriest picture look professional
2) Adjustable light levels make this the first camera of its kind that captures light rays rather than flat images
3) It’s small enough to fit into the tiniest handbag (or manbag)
So, now you can spend more time framing the photo, and less time trying to focus.

REAL-TIME GOOGLE ANALYTICS
In a world where time waits for no man, why must man wait for real-time Google Analytics? Wait no more. It’s still in beta, but you can request an invitation to switch to the new GA interface here:http://googlesystem.blogspot.com/2011/10/google-analytics-in-real-time.html
YES WE CAN
The biggest challenge when running for public office is to make everyone feel that they have a voice, and that their opinion matters. This week Obama (okay, maybe Obama’s staff) launched the latest of his 2012 campaign on Tumblr, encouraging all to participate in the 2012 election by sharing their thoughts, blogs, videos, photos and jokes. Crowd-sourced content is nothing new, but this latest play is still a nice way to make people feel connected and like their voice is heard. http://barackobama.tumblr.com/
And just for fun...
YOU TUBE VIDEO OF THE WEEK
No digital degustation would be complete without a You Tube mention. I’m nominating David Calvo for video of the week*, for being able to juggle two Rubik’s Cubes while solving a third.
